MATCH REPORT :

Long-throw specialist Rory Delap continued his domination of Barclays Premier League defences, setting up both goals as Arsenal's season took another bad turn with a 2-1 defeat at Stoke City.

Delap, whose deadly delivery from the touchline has already proved crucial to the Potters' hopes of survival, found Ricardo Fuller after 11 minutes, then helped set up Seyi Olofinjana for the hosts' second before a deflected Gael Clichy effort reduced arrears.

It was a case of bad to worse for Arsenal after the dramatic 4-4 draw with Tottenham Hotspur in midweek and a red card for Robin van Persie, coupled with injuries to Emmanuel Adebayor and Theo Walcott, made it a grim day indeed for Arsene Wenger.

Wenger had been expected to make a decisive selection following the debacle against Spurs, where his side shipped two goals in the dying seconds.

He did not disappoint. Kolo Toure was restored to both the starting XI and captaincy duties in place of the injured William Gallas, while Walcott, Samir

Nasri and Robin van Persie gave way for the more robust Alex Song, Abou Diaby and Nicklas Bendtner.

A typically patient Arsenal move in the fourth minute presented Cesc Fabregas with an early chance to try his luck, but the Spaniard's attempt was scuffed wide of the post.

The visitors continued to pour forward, with full-backs Bacary Sagna and Gael Clichy finding acres of space on the flanks.

But Stoke held firm, clearing a handful of early crosses.

cause havoc

After 10 minutes, good interplay between Fuller and Mamady Sidibe handed Delap a first chance to cause havoc and he duly obliged.

The midfielder's throw, as it has so often this term, arrowed wickedly towards the far post where Fuller got the better of Toure to glance home from close range.

Delap again caused problems after 20 minutes, looping a header goalwards after a mishit punch from Manuel Almunia.

Only a Clichy clearance off the line kept the score at 1-0 as the Gunners' defence started to wilt under examination.

Arsenal did not cope considerably better with Delap's second throw, this time surviving a goalmouth scramble more through luck than good judgment.

Toure was, at least, doing a more visible job of rallying the Arsenal troops. But, for all his fist-pumping and shouting, the best his side could muster in response was a quick turn and shot from Adebayor which failed to trouble Sorensen.

Delap was enjoying the limelight and showed another side of his game when tracking back 30 yards to rob Fabregas as he lined up a shot on the edge of the box.

Arsenal were starting to find their feet going forward but it was the unlikely figure of Griffin who showed the first half's fanciest footwork, leaving Bendtner for dead with a deft turn that delighted the home fans.

scoring opportunity

Wenger resisted the temptation to go to his star-studded bench at the interval and his side responded by starting in a more settled fashion.

But with time on Stoke's side, something more drastic was required.

Walcott was duly summoned to warm-up. His 57th-minute introduction, for the injured Sagna, gave Arsenal a more attacking shape and three minutes later Toure volleyed over from close range having met a Fabregas corner.

Van Persie was next to get the call, arriving in the 64th minute in place of the anonymous Denilson.

But, predictably, it was a Delap throw that gave rise to the next scoring opportunity, Almunia making a sharp save after Salif Diao's deflected drive looked to be heading for the net.

Olofinjana then made it two for Stoke, but again Delap was the central figure.

It was another long, lofted throw into the area and another Stoke goal as Ryan Shawcross nodded on to Olofinjana, who bundled the ball past Almunia via two touches off his chest.

Van Persie added to Wenger's woes when he petulantly charged at Sorensen, knocking him into the net and earning a red card for his trouble.

Clichy made it 2-1 in the closing seconds with a twice-deflected shot - but it was not enough and a bad day got worse as Adebayor and Walcott left the pitch in considerable pain, the latter with his left arm in a sling.

MATCH REPORT :

Cesc Fabregas came to ...Harry Redknapp's magic touch worked again as Tottenham Hotspur grabbed a last-gasp equaliser through Aaron Lennon in a thrilling match against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

Trailing to David Bentley's stunning opener, Arsenal exposed Spurs to lead through Mikael Silvestre and William Gallas.

Emmanuel Adebayor added his obligatory goal - he now has eight from seven starts against Spurs - before Darren Bent pulled one back.

Robin van Persie, who had a hand in Arsenal's previous goals, netted his 50th goal for Arsenal but Spurs have a new resilience under Redknapp and Jermaine Jenas' late strike gave them hope before Lennon struck at the death.

It was Gareth Bale who had the first opportunity of the match, racing onto Tom Huddlestone's ball over the top in the third minute and finding the side-netting.

But the visitors were ahead 10 minutes later through Bentley's moment of magic.

swerved over

Arsenal failed to clear convincingly from defence, leading to Modric heading the loose ball over his head towards Jenas.

Jenas chested the ball to Bentley, who took one touch to keep the ball in the air before unleashing a 40-yard volley which swerved over Manuel Almunia.

Van Persie then went close twice, going wide from the edge of the area each time, the first with a free-kick and the second after Theo Walcott laid the ball back.

Gallas also went close, this time after the type of fumble from goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes that has become commonplace. The ball broke to Gallas but the finish cleared the crossbar.

Wenger appeared frustrated on the bench as Spurs clattered into challenges and the hosts tried to convert their possession to an equaliser.

Walcott drilled straight at Gomes and Gael Clichy fired over the crossbar in their next moves.

headed home

Gomes was then at full stretch to deny Fabregas but Arsenal were level from the corner. Van Persie swung over the set-piece and Silvestre headed home as Gomes flapped.

It took Arsenal less than a minute to take the lead after the restart following a foul by Huddlestone when he hauled back Van Persie.

Van Persie took the free-kick and Gallas climbed above Vedran Corluka at the near post to head home his fourth goal of the campaign.

Sensing Spurs' fragility at set-pieces, Silvestre almost added another from a corner, his header flashing past the upright.

Adebayor flashed wide from the edge of the area, but he made no mistake when Arsenal broke in the 64th minute.

Van Persie sent Samir Nasri through to lob Gomes, with Adebayor beating Alan Hutton to the ball to force it home.

Bent was sent on and pulled a goal back after Huddlestone's drive was not held cleanly by Almunia, but Van Persie restored the two-goal advantage in the next move.

Hutton's sloppy pass was picked up by Adebayor, who fed Van Persie to lash home.

That looked like game over but Jenas found the top corner with a minute of time remaining, setting up a frantic finale in which Lennon snatched a point with a tap-in after Modric hit the post.

Man of The Match : Robin Van Persie

MATCH REPORT :

Emmanuel Adebayor came off the bench to inspire Arsenal to victory over West Ham United at Upton Park.

The Togo international created the breakthrough after 75 minutes when his cross-shot was turned into his own net by West Ham full-back Julien Faubert.

As the Hammers pushed for an injury time equaliser, Adebayor finished off an incisive counter-attack by rounding Robert Green to rifle home the second. West Ham finished the game with 10 men after Carlton Cole was sent off in injury time for a foul on Alexander Song.

Arsenal were quick to test West Ham with a dangerous angled run from England international Theo Walcott but Hammers keeper Rob Green was equal to the low cross shot.

Silvestre almost let in Di Michele with a mis-kick before the Italian's 25-yard drive forced Arsenal keeper Manuel Almunia into a neat tip over the bar.

Bendtner tried his luck from outside the area as Arsenal struggled to prise open the West Ham defence, which seemed content to sit back and allow the Gunners to play in front of them.

Walcott took on the responsibility to inject some pace and invention into the Arsenal game with a brilliantly tricky run that carried him past two West Ham defenders and into the box.

Van Persie was screaming for the ball to be pulled back towards the penalty spot but Walcott went himself and his fierce shot deflected off the cross-bar and over.

Green then came racing off his line to pluck the ball away from Bendtner, who was chasing a well-weighted ball over the West Ham defence.

Arsenal had found their rhythm. Cesc Fabregas lifted a delicate ball into the box which Van Persie chested down for Walcott.

The teenager held off his man and seemed certain to score only for Green to pull off a fantastic save, turning the ball behind with a dive low to his right.

West Ham needed something to relieve the pressure and they almost managed to sting Arsenal with a quick-fire counter-attack as Scott Parker sent Bellamy racing clear through the middle.

adventurous style

The Wales international created the angle but Almunia did well to get his leg to Bellamy's low drive and the ball deflected high and over the bar.

With West Ham playing the adventurous style Gianfranco Zola promised when he arrived, and Arsenal's youngsters in the groove, the match opened up into a feast of attacking football.

Bendtner should have done better to meet an inviting cross from the left but he then drew another excellent save from Green as he cut in from the left and attempted a curling shot inside the far post.

West Ham counter-attacked again. Bellamy's pace was causing Arsenal's centre-back pair of Gallas and Silvestre trouble but his final ball aimed at Di Michele was disappointing.

After Scott Parker was booked for a stiff challenge on Fabregas, Herita Ilunga almost picked out Cole with a low cross.

Samir Nasri linked well on the edge of the West Ham box but was closed down well and his shot squirted wide for a corner, which Walcott won but headed over the bar.

At the other end, West Ham forced a corner which Matthew Upson met with his chest but the ball skipped away from him and Almunia pounced.

Gael Clichy was booked for a reckless challenge on Hayden Mullins. Cole met the away-swinging free-kick but directed his header just wide of Almunia's right post.

Nasri was involved again, teeing up Walcott whose low cross forced Collins into a late interception and he managed to lift the ball over the bar and away to safety.

Collins was in action again when Van Persie stole in at the far post but the physical centre-back forced himself in front of the Dutchman and Green mopped up.

double change

West Ham then had three separate appeals for handball in the area turned down before Bellamy launched another counter-attack and was cynically blocked by Alexander Song, who was booked. The intensity was rising.

Bellamy switched wings and burst into the Arsenal box but could not quite tee up Lee Bowyer and Gallas combined with Almunia to clear the danger.

Arsenal went close again when Collins managed to get a foot to Walcott's low drive and Bowyer then blocked Van Persie's follow-up.

With 25 minutes remaining Wenger made a double change with Diaby and Adebayor replacing Nasri and Walcott.

Adebayor had a chance with his first touch as he rose to meet the corner but he could not direct the header on target.

The changes brought added urgency to Arsenal's game and Green was forced into a third magnificent save to deny Van Persie, who had cut in from the right flank to drive a low left-footed shot.

Van Persie then unleashed a stinging free-kick which had Green beaten but cannoned off the far post and rebounded clear.

West Ham could not relieve the pressure and Adebayor finally engineered the breakthrough.

He latched onto a neat ball from Van Persie and rode two challenges inside the area before pulling a low shot back across goal which Faubert turned into his own net.

Adebayor exchanged passes with Bendtner to break into the West Ham box but his first strike was blocked by Green and he fired the rebound over the bar.

As the clock ticked into injury time West Ham laid siege and had another good handball shout turned down after the ball struck Diaby's arm.

Arsenal broke the length of the field and Adebayor rounded Green, who had rushed out of his box, to fire in the second and seal the win. In the closing seconds, Cole was sent off for a foul on Song.

Man of The Match : Manuel Almunia
